The recent exposure of
blacklisting within the construction industry has been described
as "deplorable" by the TUC. An investigation published
by the Information Commissioner on Friday revealed numerous
major construction firms had broken data-protection laws by
paying for sensitive information on their employees.
Brendan Barber, TUC General
Secretary said:
The
blacklisting uncovered by the Information Commissioner is
deplorable. Not only has information about workers' union
membership been recorded and shared, but personal details
have also been revealed. The Government must act now and bring
in the 1999 blacklisting regulations, to give workers proper
protection and access to redress.
