1.
Attacks on employment rights
The Government has taken
aim at employment legislation as part of its austerity drive,
with reviews currently underway that will have serious implications
for job security. New proposals call for less protection for
workers facing redundancy or business transfers (TUPE).
2.
Restrictions on access to justice
Costs of going to employment
tribunals are set to rocket just as legal aid funding is being
cut and could effectively put justice beyond the price range
of most workers. Proposals to reform the tribunal system also
include limiting unfair dismissal rights to those with a minimum
of two years service.
3.
Threats to the right to strike
ConDem Ministers have
stepped up their threats to further restrict trade union rights.
The Secretary of State for Business, Vince Cable, announced
that if unions continue to exercise their right to strike,
tougher legislation on strike ballots may be brought in.
