The European Trade Union
Confederation (ETUC) are calling for a 'new social deal' in
Europe and are launching a European campaign to fight the
economis crisis.
The ETUC says:
"It
is unacceptable for workers and citizens to shoulder the burden
of a crisis they did not cause...This social agenda will have
to focus on the main concerns of European citizens: employment,
purchasing power and their fundamental rights."
The Campaign centres
on the ETUC
Declaration - 'Fight the Crisis: Put the People First'
and will involve a series of demonstrations throughout the
EU in May 2009.
Four days of action will
take place beginning on the 15 May in Brussels, the 16 May
in Prague and Berlin, and details will follow for the event
in Spain.
