This conference offers
an opportunity for trade unionists to consider two things:
where we are now, and where we want to be.
With collective bargaining
coverage falling, and the gap between the richest and the
poorest growing, anti trade union laws continue to restrain
trade union activity, while weaknesses in our recognition
procedures deny trade unions a voice at work.
As public sector budgets
are slashed and a brutal programme of redundancies begins,
we want to look at some of the emerging issues.
These include:
- ways in which trade
unions can challenge the UKs anti union laws;
- whistle-blowing in
the public interest and what can be done to protect workers;
- the equalities agenda
in the light of diminishing budgets;
- victimisation in the
context of public sector redundancies;
- a new private members
bill that aims to close the legal loop holes that allow
employers to challenge trade union ballots:
- and, most importantly,
where we go now to ensure we gain the best protection for
workers rights.
This event brings together
a superb range of top class speakers from the worlds of academia,
politics, and the trade union movement. For anyone in the
North West and beyond with an interest in the future of collective
labour law and workers rights this is one not
to miss!
